Unknown gunmen have stomped Idabato in the Bakasi peninsula in the Ndian Division South West Region of Cameroon in the early hours of Tuesday October 1st kidnaping the District officer Ewane Roland. Report says that the assailant who came onboard a speed boat took the government official to an unknown destination in the direction of neighboring Nigeria.
In the kidnapped operation, the district officer was said to have been taken away from his residence together with an Idabatocouncil personnel Etongo Ismael who happened to be present at the time. It is important to note that the Bakasis peninsula is an area infested by sea pirates but as of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the act yet.
However, the Senior Divisional Officer has informed the Nigerian Council in Buea of the situation so that collaborations between the governments of the two countries could join efforts to find the District Officer and if possible bring the perpetrators to book. It will be needless to say that the South West region and the Noth West Regions have not been very safe places to work for government officials since the outbreak of the Anglophone Crisis in 2016. So it will be important to tighten security around all the government officials who are obliged to work in these areas.
