News of Pope Francis’ death this Easter Monday fell as a shock to the world and the Christian community though he was old and not very much in perfect health. Many asked if it was not the wrath of God that stroke the pope at such a significant time of the Christian faith. Pope Francis was the only pope that did openly caressed same sax relationship, saying that they too were children of God. This position of the suverent Pontiff left many Africans with doubt and frowns at the Catholic Church’s position towards such a critical issue. Considering that Many reverent fathers and Bishops have been found guilty of pedophiles and homosexual offence without the Vatican openly condemning them.
The 88 year old Argentine born who died this Monday 21st April 2025 at his resident I the Vatican at the Casa Santa Maria was the first South American and the first non-European pope since Syrian Gregory 8th century. George Mario Bergoglio was born on the 17th of December 1936 in the capital of Argentina, Buernos Aires. The 266th pope of the Catholic Church who was archbishop of Buernos Aires, he adopted the name Francis in his election the 13th of March 2013.
After so many popes, it is about time Africans should start asking to know when will a pope from a African origin be elected. If up to now there is no thought of an African pope coming up, it means that African should have a rethink into diving wholly into a religious belief that is not theirs.
