Cameroon could soon have a new cardinal in the person of ace Archbishop Andrew Nkea.
Pope Francis has selected Bamenda Archdiocese Archbishop Andrew Nkea and 20 other archbishops as potential cardinals to be ordained on December 8th 2024. The 59 year old prelate who grew up in Limbe, sent his fellow countrymen jubilating in bliss to know their own brother could soon be made a cardinal in Cameroon.
Born in Widikum North West Region of Cameroon, Archbishop Nkea and his family settled in Limbe Southwest region of Cameroon in the early 70s. First in Clarks quarters and then latter in Newtown.
Young Andrew Nkea attended the government primary school Down beach L before moving forward to National Comprehensive secondary School in Limbe before he proceeded to the minor seminary, the Bishop Rogan Collage in Buea. April 1992 saw Andrew Nkea ordained as priest in the Diocese, then being elevated to the rank of episcopate in 2013 the Coadjutor Bishop in Mamfe were he succeeded Bishop Francis Teke Lysinge as a local ordinary in 2014.He finally was elevated as Archbishop in 2019.
Noted to be a good leader in the teaching of Christianity, Archbishop Nkea Fuany is considered a blessing to his family too, as well as he will be a blessing to his country Cameroon when the Vatican decides that he becomes a cardinal.
The last cardinal in Cameroon was Christian Tumi who died in 3rd of April 2021 at age 91 years. He lived in the Douala Cathedral.
