The country of the Teranga Lions have terminated head coach Aliou Cisse’s contract as national selection after 9 years on the bench. Cisse whose contract ended 31st August 2024 did not get a renewal from the ministry of youth, sports and culture of his country Madam Khady Diene Gaye. Winner of the African Cup of Nations AFCON Cameroon 2023 against Egypt, he set an unprecedented record for the Senegalese football history with 70 victories, 13 defeats and 24 draws out of the 107 matches he played. The football technician qualified his country for two world cup competitions 2018 in Russia and 2022 in Quatar.
Upon announcing his termination as football head coach of the national selection, by the minister of sports, Cisse attracted sympathy from his countrymen and beyond, particularly from president of the Senegal Football Federation FSF Augustin Senghor for setting an unprecedented soccer record in his country. He is the coach that gave the country its only African Nations Cup trophy.
The Senegalese government did not renew the 48 year old Cisse’s contract because of growing public disapproval of his results since his premature outing in the Ivory Coast AFCON 2024 and for the recent drop in the FIFA ranking. They have therefore given a green light to the FA to put in place an interim coaching staff that will take the selection to the matches of the 11th and 15th day of play against Malawi this October for the qualification of the 2025 AFCON.
