The China First Highway Engineering Company takes the construction job for 8 billion FCFA. Hoping to see a brand new bridge on the Mbam soon.
Following the termination of the first contract due to the failure of the company formerly in charge of the work, a new contract procedure resulted in the work being awarded to the China First Highway Engineering Company. According to the Ministry of Public Works, Emanuel Nganou Njoumessi, the Chinese company will therefore provide its expertise in the construction of this structure in the Mbam and Inoubou Division in the Centre region.
The project concerns the construction of a 130 m double-girder metal composite bridge in 3 spans over the Mbam River in Nchiayang in the Mbam and Inoubou Division in the Central region. It is following a procedure launched through the open international call for tenders N 062/AOIO/MINTP/CCCM-TR/CIPM-TCRI/2024 for the completion of construction works of a bridge and its accesses over the Mbam River in Nchiayang in the Deuk district, that the contract was awarded to the CFHEC/CFHECC consortium for a cost of 8,075,493,261 CFA francs financed by the Public Investment Budget-MINTP.
Presently, the consortium has begun the project execution studies and preliminary steps that will permit a space of 29 months for the construction of this structure. In addition, for the structure to be built, it will also involve the development of 100 m access roads, consisting of a 25 cm thickness of natural lateritic gravel foundation layer, with an addition of 10% sand in places, a 20 cm crushed gravel base layer, an impregnation layer, a bituminous concrete coating and surface dressing.
The road surface will also be covered with a 5 cm thick asphalt concrete, reinforced concrete abutments and piers, and shallow foundations with a maximum depth of 16 m during flooding. Work is also planned to develop the access roads to the structure, over a length of approximately 5.4 km, to ensure the connection of National Road No. 4 to the Gouffé village via the new bridge.
To date, the Chinese construction company has begun the project’s execution studies and preliminary procedures, which should deliver the structure within 29 months. Its completion will help open up this Division, considered one of Cameroon’s major agricultural regions due to its production of cocoa, coffee, yams, etc.
