The elite unit of the Cameroon army, the Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR has increased its rank with the recruitment of almost 2000 freshmen to permit the country tackle the new surfacing security challenges.
The Rapid Intervention Battalion by its French acronym BIR opened its doors for 1800 new recruits in its Limbe and Maroua-Salak training centers Saturday September 27th 2025.
The young Cameroonians joined the ranks of the special military unit, the prestigious Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) after completing the very demanding national recruitment process. The welcoming process was rigorously organized at the MAN O WAR BAY training centers in Limbe and Maroua-Salak under high military coordination.
At the time when the country needs well trained men at the front line to defend its flag in the Extreme North region with Boko Haram incursion and the Anglophone crisis in the South West and North West regions of the country, the recruitment of freshmen into the elite unit is just welcoming.
Reports says while 900 out of the 1800 nationwide recruits to the elite corps integrated the Limbe Man O War Bay commando Training center, the rest were channeled in the Maroua Salak training center
Upon arrival, the recruits were subjected to a strict protocol that entails identification by list, biometric verification, administrative enrollment carried out by the Human Resources Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, then collection of individual information by Military Security. This mandatory process aimed at guaranteeing the authenticity, traceability and conformity of each integration file. This strategic process was placed under the supervision of Lieutenant-Colonel TAPELE OUMAROU, Commander of the MAN O WAR BAY Training Center, assisted by the Standard Chief of the BIR Human Resources Movement. Both men praised the smooth running of this critical phase of the operation which marks the beginning of an intense training course for the recruits.
