Yaoundé bishops’ conference calls for peace during upcoming 2025 elections in Cameroon and the respect of civic duty for every citizen.
At the end of their 50th plenary session held last Saturday 3rd May 2025 in Mvolyé Yaounde , the bishops in Cameroon called on all Christians to stay in prayers towards the upcoming 2025 presidential so as to preserve peace in the country. The communication goes thus: “Following their pastoral letter on the elections, the bishops invite all the Christian faithful to persevere in prayer so that the presidential election in October and the regional elections take place in peace and are a powerful and graceful time for our country”. This information was disseminated from the final communiqué that was read after the bishops’ meeting. By this information the Bamenda metropolitan Arsh Bishop Andrew Nkea in his capacity as President of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon, calls on every citizen to fulfill their civic duty.
“We are going through a very delicate moment in our country. We are concerned about how we must maintain peace until the end of this year. We have called on all Cameroonians to come out and vote en masse, because it is the right of every citizen to choose who they believe can govern our country in the coming years,” Bishop Andrew Nkea said. The important bishops meeting held in Yaoundé was also marked by the renewal of the various episcopal commissions. Bishop Andrew Nkea was reappointed as president for the next year episcopal conference. Among the notable changes, Bishop Sosthène Léopold Bayemi is leaving the Communication commission to now head the Commission of Lay Apostolate.
